Wind Offset setting

Just stumbled on the wind offset setting in the advanced settings. Does anyone know how it works? (i.e. does it add or subtract?) I know my station is a little off north because I ran out of hands to tighten and hold the pole at the same time when I installed it!

perhaps change it during a more or less steady winddirection by 90 degrees and you’ll know.

You determine the direction that the Sky is actually sited. Instead of North it is actually at 5 degrees.

You want to set the offset to -5.

If it is at 350 degrees, you set the offset to 10.

I hope this helps you.

Just used this setting to adjust one of my two side by side rooftop Sky’s. Works great!

Correct. The value in this setting is simply added to your raw direction.

Sorry to dig up a very old thread, but this is the only thread that discusses this topic, so I thought it right to ask here.

I just went and set the offset as per these instructions, but I am not convinced that it is correct.

My Tempest is pointing at 335 degrees. So I set the offset to plus 25, but the data looks wrong in comparison to other stations nearby.

If wind blows into it head on it will report as coming from north, so 0 degrees, but in fact the wind will be from 335, so to correct this I need to subtract the 25 to correct it? And not add 25 as these instructions imply? Is my logic wrong?

well, I’m not sure what you mean with head on, but wind is reported coming from 0 and you want that to change to 335 than the instructions tell you to add 335
“The wind direction offset value is added to your raw wind direction reading”

Better is to rotate the tempest, as this also helps in orienting the solar panels in the right direction.

Ironically mine was put up 180 degrees off so I can’t remember! Change it 90 degrees wait and see how the reports line up with nearby stations to make it obvious.

It never matters what other stations report. Your location can easily have local variation based on the surroundings.

Thanks, but I live on a small island 9 miles by 5, which is covered by some 20 plus stations, so nearby does mean pretty close. Since making setting the value to negative 25, it appears to be more inline with the airport which is less than 1km from me and the other stations so I’ll take that as good enough.
