I agree with Carlos (above). As a Meteorologist, I am interested in testing weather systems and comparing their effectiveness against operational systems. In this case WeatherFlow WFSKY-01 compared to a 2nd generation WeatherFlow SKY (Tempest). I plan to buy a Tempest Weather System to supplement / compliment my WFSKY-01, whether I can obtain one for $149 if selected to be a tester, or be offered one for current users, as Carlos mentioned. Hoping to be selected as a beta field tester – I have worked with weather systems for years, but never had a chance to test a system that is destined to become a production (operational) system.
I think they mentioned that as a current user you’ll be able to buy a Tempest cheaper than any of the KickStarter offers, so even if you don’t get in as a beta tester you’ll be in fair to good shape.
FWIW, I canceled my KickStarter so I didn’t get charged on 12/5 just in case. Looks like somebody snapped up the slot I freed up in the cheapie price category, so that’s good. Whoever got the last super-cheap one can thank me 
I backed it at 1:35 pm PST. The $229 one showed 2 available.
If you look at the original post looking for testers it stated that the tester device would almost certainly not work after testing was done
What to expect : This is a closed field test of pre-production hardware and alpha-level software. Above all, expect there to be glitches. It’s also likely that the pre-production hardware you receive during the field test period will cease to function once we go into production
Are we going to hear anything before the end of the year?
We had more than 330 field test applicants for 100 spots. Approved Tempest Field Testers will be notified by email by the end of day December 3rd. We will also be offering test applicants who were not selected a special consolation Tempest package deal as a token of our gratitude. Consolation emails will be sent in the next couple days.

Tried to be a tester but it was full unfortunately I do do a lot f beta testing for other companies would like to for you in the future but I did order the new tempest station from you

Thank you for accepting! I did already back the system on the kickstarter before I got selected just in case. Do I need to cancel that one now and then do it again with the digital code or just let it be? @dsj
@delmarvawx . You can go ahead and cancel your Kickstarter pledge. The field test program will include a beta Tempest and beta HUB as well as a digital code to purchase a full production system for $149 after the testing. (The beta devices will likely be deprecated after the testing period.)
Or, keep your Kickstarter pledge and gift it to a family member!

I echo some of the others. I’m very excited to be a part of the field testing program. I look forward to assisting in getting the tempest system market-ready. A side note, I’ll be doing a mobile / field research project with the current WF smart station and am interested in comparing datasets with RM Young equipment this spring. With the remote station addition to the new tempest station can that be a addon down the road? I have a 60 acre property with great cellular reception to really test out the remote sites. With the original WF station I’ve been pushing the limits on the WiFi range through several walls and for it being a solid 800ft away from the hub! I’m super impressed with that! As long as my IP cooperates and doesnt cut out like it does from time to time.
